Lessons we’ve learned
As many of us have seen in the news, Delta has emerged this year better, stronger and more responsive to their customers. While Visionary Tennis hasn't experienced the challenges of bankruptcy, we've also listened to our customers and this season we too have emerged better, stronger and more responsive to our players.
To most of you, Rocket has been a familiar name. He left us in January to join his son in a family business. He has been a great source of humor and good will with our members, and like most relationships, you never realize the full impact someone has until they are gone. We will all miss his unique style and organizational skills.
A few of you have had the chance to interact with our new Player Services Director, Jim Heinz. Although he had huge shoes to fill, he has taken every task we've given him and added his own enthusiastic attention to detail. He joined the team a week prior to our Doubles leagues going on line and fielded over 2000 emails in his first 60 days!
This past season you experienced "the scramble," a glitch in our software that showed up as we populated the Winter Doubles. Many players got exchanged and mismatched. It was caused by the fact that our system wasn't designed to have doubles players without their partners signing up. That glitch has been fixed and we won't be scrambling players again.
We also made the mistake of trying to please everyone last doubles season. As a result, we took players that didn't make it into a league and formed half leagues with only four teams. We thought it would be better than not playing but it was a huge mistake. So this season we GUARANTEED that there would be no leagues opened without the full eight teams. Even though some players were not able to get into leagues, we've learned that it is better to apologize and refund than to deliver less than is deserved.
Amidst all this, so many of our members have shown amazing understanding and loyalty; for that we are especially thankful. Your feedback and insight have given us great ideas and we will implement many of them including the Zone System, which you see during registration. The Zone system allows players to see the geographic area where most of their matches will occur. It also allows people outside the metro area to participate without being unfair to the players within the zone.
And as more and more doubles players utilize the MatchMaker(sm) tool, they are spending less time on the phone and more time on the court — and that's a good thing!
All in all, we've had a very exciting, challenging and frustrating 2007 so far. There are lessons we've learned, and a few things we'd change. Thanks for weathering the storms with us and allowing us to overcome our growing pains.
In the next 12 months, we will be implementing even more ideas to continue to earn our title as "the most EXCITING tennis leagues in America."

Visionary Spring Singles Tournament of Champions returns to Bitsy Grant Tennis Center
On May 12th Visionary Tennis will hold its 7th Tournament of Champions at historic Bisty Grant Tennis Center. The facility is located at 2125 Northside Drive, Atlanta. Bitsy boasts 13 clay courts and 10 hard courts. The tournament will be held on the hard courts.
Semi-finals will be played in the morning with Finals in the afternoon. Players will have a complementary light breakfast and beverage service. Sponsors will have displays and raffles for a variety of prizes.
"Bitsy" is named for Bryan M. Grant Jr. Nicknamed Bitsy because of his 5-foot, 4-inch frame, he became one of the world's most illustrious tennis players, a "giant-killer" on the courts. Grant died in 1986. For many years, he was a fixture at the center, always ready for a match and a champion of the center's "everyone can play" credo.
All Visionary players, families, and the general public are invited to attend. Phone (404) 609-7193 for more info or directions.
