All of the people all of the time?
There's an old saying that says you can fool some of the people some of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time. Well we don't want to fool anyone ever!
This month I'm deviating again from my role as our health and fitness editor and putting on my player services hat. As some of you are aware, I took over the Player Services role at the beginning of this season. It has been a huge learning experience for me. I thank all of you for your patience.
Our entire team here at Visionary Tennis is constantly striving to make the tennis experience better for all of our players. We value your input and we value your time. We know that you have more choices in Atlanta than in any other city in the world when it comes to how you spend your free time playing tennis. So when we make a change in the league or the rules, it isn't without a great deal of consideration. We attempt to communicate with you, our members and readers, via email, on the website and here in the VISIONS newsletter.
My question to you is this: how effective have we been at informing you of new information? What could we do to get new information to you more effectively? With all the spam filters and email blockers out there, it's a wonder that ANYTHING gets through. One of the most frustrating things I do is answering an email from one of our members by hitting the reply button, only to have it come back in a day or so saying that this member uses a special filter to block emails or that their server rejected my reply. Therefore we are evaluating different means of contacting you including blogs, video, and other high tech stuff we can't even reveal at this point.
My point is this — we don't want anyone to be fooled — ever. We want to inform all the players about what is going on all the time. How can we best reach and inform you? Contact me with your responses at playerservices@visionarytennis.com.
Until next time, I'll see you on the courts!

Massage Envy — the feeling every body wants
OUR VISION
We bring massage therapy out of the elite and expensive circle and make it available to everyone.
We strive to provide professional Massage Therapists and therapeutic massage at convenient times, locations and at affordable prices.
We believe everyone should be able to take advantage of the wonderful therapeutic and stress relieving benefits of massage therapy.
The American Massage Therapy Association reports that more people than ever are receiving therapeutic massages for a multitude of reasons. Some of the benefits of massage include relaxation, stress reduction, sore muscle relief, increased blood circulation, pain management, injury recovery and rehabilitational therapy.
We have learned the primary reasons that people do not receive massages on a regular basis are time and price. Massage Envy has partnered with massage therapists whose prime objective is to be available more hours and charge less so that more people can take advantage of their services. We have utilized a membership based approach that brings massage therapy out of the elite and expensive circle and makes it available to everyone. We are committed to delivering a highly professional, very convenient and affordable experience every time. Thank you for your interest in Massage Envy.

Your Health with Dr. Jim Heinz
Loosen up to prevent injuries |
|
Like many of you, I grew up before metal or composite racquets. When I was a beginner, racquets were wooden. The swing was different, strokes were rigid and wrists were locked.
Today's racquets will impart a great deal of power if you will just let them. A harder swing doesn't translate into a faster ball. A looser, faster swing does. If you have ever seen a highly ranked 10-year-old rip a ball, you know if doesn't take muscle to create pace.
Gripping the racquet tightly and "muscling" the ball are two ways to increase injury and decrease your effectiveness. Lighten up! Try to make sure you are as relaxed when you finish a stroke as when you began it. Swing freely and let the racquet do the work.
You'll be amazed at the pace you can create when you relax, loosen your grip and let the stroke flow. You'll also dramatically decrease the chance of shoulder injuries and tennis elbow.
So relax and have fun. That's really why we are all out on the court anyway!
Until next time, I'll see you on the courts.

The Last Word...
|
|
Somewhere along the path of ‘growing up’, the essence of play becomes more and more elusive, like a dream’s receding memory. Many of us give in and allow the sheer fun of life to be discredited, forced to cower behind a wall of ‘reasonable expectations’.
But once in awhile, something rekindles that spark, awakens that child to come out and play.
It is that moment that gives us all hope.
Visionary Tennis is all about that moment, and about bringing it back to you again and again and again. We want you to play. We want to remind you that ‘playing tennis’ really is just that. It’s not a job, it’s not a discipline —
it’s a game.
