NEW — Five BIG prizes await you!

The yearlong PlayerPoint races

Play tennis and win PlayerPoints.
Play tennis trivia and win PlayerPoints.
Refer some friends to Visionary Tennis Leagues and win PlayerPoints.

Now grow your PlayerPoint accounts for a chance to win one of five big prizes.
For 2007, we have set aside five big prizes, each valued at over $250.

As of January 1st, we have begun tracking every single PlayerPoint that you earn in 2007. There will be three separate PlayerPoint races that will be tracked and posted on the website for all to see starting late January.

How do you play?  As a league member, you simply do what you already do.  You play tennis.  You play tennis trivia.  And you let people know about the most exciting flexible tennis leagues in America.

PlayerPoint Race #1:  The “Grand PlayerPoint Champion” Race
Big prizes, valued at over $250, will be awarded to the top two PlayerPoint earners for 2007.  Points earned by any method through December 1st , 2007 will count. This includes playing any regular league season, qualifying for and playing in any Visionary Tournament, playing weekly tennis trivia, or referring friends to the leagues.
These two Really Big Prizes will be awarded at the Holiday Party on Wednesday December 5th.

PlayerPoint Race #2:  The “I’m A Player” PlayerPoint Race
Two of the Really Big Prizes will be awarded to the two league players who accumulate the most PlayerPoints through December 1, 2007 without qualifying for a Visionary Tournament.  These two $250 prizes reward the players who just love the game, but somehow don’t quite finish high enough in the standings to qualify for the big Visionary Tournaments.  All points earned by playing any regular league season, playing weekly tennis trivia or referring friends to the leagues will count.
These two Really Big Prizes will be awarded at the Holiday Party on Wednesday December 5th.

PlayerPoint Race #3:  The “Thank You For Being A Player” Race
The last of the Really Big Prizes will be awarded to the player who plays the most seasons during 2007.  Each season that you register for will earn you one point towards a drawing that will be held at the Holiday Party on December 5th.  The more seasons you play, the more chances you will have in the prize drawing pot.

Let the races begin!  Register for a league NOW!

Upcoming Event

Next Kidz Night Out Respite Program – February 18 (6pm-10pm) The Respite Program is growing and we have expanded to 7 specific dates already planned for 2007. The program lets parents take a break and children take part in planned activities organized by therapists and volunteers. Activities include: craft activity, gross motor activities (trampoline, obstacle course), cookie decorating for the older kids, and lots of social interaction and free play! Parents continue to support the respite cause and are very thankful for a night out — some parents go out to dinner and others just run some much-needed errands.

To sign up for any of the 2007 dates call the office at 770-517-1585. Learn more about The Kool Kids Foundation at http://www.koolkidzfoundation.org/

Your Health with Dr. Jim Heinz

Avoiding dehydration in winter

When the temperature drops, the humidity goes down, and our natural urge to drink drops as well. But when we play in winter, our need for water is almost as great as it is in the summer. Since we will be less thirsty, it is even more important to think about getting enough water.

The following guides can help:

  • drink 12 - 16 oz of water one hour before your match
  • drink at every change of sides
  • drink water or sports drinks immediately after your match
  • avoid alcoholic beverages until you have had a chance to rehydrate

Since sodium and chloride are two of the primary electrolytes we lose when we sweat, it may be important to eat something salty after your match. Of course if you are on a sodium restricted diet, do so cautiously only after talking to your physician.

Keep hydrated on the court so that you can enjoy "winter" in Atlanta where the temperature can be in the 60's, the sky can be crystal clear and the birds still sing.

Please email me your health or fitness questions. I'll send you a reply, and you might just see your question in the next issue.

See you on the courts!

The Last Word...

Somewhere along the path of ‘growing up’, the essence of play becomes more and more elusive, like a dream’s receding memory. Many of us give in and allow the sheer fun of life to be discredited, forced to cower behind a wall of ‘reasonable expectations’.

But once in awhile, something rekindles that spark, awakens that child to come out and play. It is that moment that gives us all hope.

Visionary Tennis is all about that moment, and about bringing it back to you again and again and again. We want you to play. We want to remind you that ‘playing tennis’ really is just that. It’s not a job, it’s not a discipline —
it’s a game.

Know anybody else who’s into sports as much as you? Why not forward VISIONS to them and spread the word!
